With decarbonisation and the green transition topping the shipping agenda, shipowners are exploring greener alternative fuels to meet their future emission targets. The industry is conducting intensive research and testing to identify which new fuels may emerge as preferred alternatives to fossil fuels. However, questions remain: how much progress have we made, what do we currently know about the most prominent emerging alternative fuels and what should shipowners be aware of to stay prepared for the future?
Jacob Damgaard, Head of Loss Prevention at Britannia P&I, hosted the webinar, and covered a range of topics including the operational and safety aspects surrounding the use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), methanol, biofuels, and ammonia as alternative fuels. Additionally, the discussion delved into quality issues, particularly with biofuels, future expectations, and strategies to address these issues going forward.
