The Britannia Hong Kong Office opened in December 2013 and on 21 December 2018 the Hong Kong insurance regulator, the Insurance Authority (IA), granted Britannia a licence to underwrite business from its Hong Kong office as The Britannia Steam Ship Insurance Association Limited Hong Kong Branch. This development allowed Tindall Riley to enhance the service provided to Britannia’s Members in Hong Kong, as well as being able to cover Mainland China, Taiwan and Korea.
On 3 February 2021 IA granted Britannia a further licence to underwrite business as The Britannia Steam Ship Insurance Association Europe Hong Kong Branch, in anticipation of the transfer of business from Britannia to Britannia Europe. This transfer took place on 20 February 2021 and the Britannia Steam Ship Insurance Association Limited Hong Kong Branch was subsequently de-authorised and closed.
The office is currently headed by David Cave, Chief Executive Officer, with Wing Wai as Head of Claims for the branch and also the head of the claims team assisting Members from Taiwan and Mainland China. Gwen Vetuz heads up the claims team responsible for Korean Members. Sissi Zhang acts as Head of Underwriting and Sonia Cheng as Head of Finance.
