AUSTRALIA: END OF SEAFARER MLC CONTRACT EXEMPTION
Published: 27 November 2020
Under the Maritime Labour Convention the maximum period that a seafarer can normally serve aboard a ship without leave is 11 months, however this period has been extended in recent months due to COVID-19. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), noting that the continuous period that a seafarer can serve on board a vessel without taking leave needs to return to sustainable and safe levels, has announced, in Marine Notice 10/2020, that these interim Covid arrangements will end on 28 February 2021.
