CHINA: SOLUTIONS TO ADDRESS THE CARRIAGE OF NON-COMPLIANT FUEL OIL ON BOARD

From 01 March 2020, fuel oil which exceeds the 0.50% sulphur limit cannot be carried in a ship’s fuel oil tanks unless the ship is fitted with an approved exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) or equivalent arrangement.
Correspondents in China have now issued a Circular detailing the reporting and fuel management requirements for ships trading to China, which have been unable to comply with the MARPOL regulations and are still carrying or using non-compliant fuel oil on board.
