PARIS AND TOKYO MOU: LETTER OF WARNING ABOUT SULPHUR FUEL CONTENT
Published: 3 January 2019
The Tokyo and the Paris Memoranda will carry out a joint information campaign by issuing a letter of warning to ships during inspections from 1 January to 31 December 2019. The aim is to increase awareness that the maximum permissible sulphur content of fuel oils used on board will be 0.50%m/m with effect from 1 January 2020, in accordance with the requirements of MARPOL Annex VI. All ships found not to be ready to comply with the new requirements will be issued with a warning letter setting out the requirements and warning that any deficiencies found after 1 January 2020 may lead to the ship being detained.
