Published: 15 April 2026

In Q1, ReCAAP (Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia) has recently reported a total of 16 incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships during January to march 2026. This marks a 64% decrease in the total number of incidents compared to the same period in 2025, when 44 incidents were reported.

Seafarers are strongly reminded to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring their safety and security while transiting high-risk areas. Combating piracy and armed robbery is a shared responsibility and it is through the efforts of all stakeholders involved – ship crew, shipping industry, maritime community, law enforcement agencies, coastal States that seafarers are protected and the sea lanes in Asia kept safe, incident-free, and unimpeded for international trade and commerce.
