INDONESIA: BAN ON COAL EXPORTS EASES

Published: 24 January 2022

Following the total ban on coal exports imposed on 31 December, it appears that the situation is improving with The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources revoking the export ban for 139 companies. The ban had been put in place to protect the domestic power supply as there had been a shortage of coal which had threatened power shutdowns. It is reported that domestic coal stocks are now sufficient and so the export of coal can continue. The majority of the ships waiting to leave Indonesia are said to be bound for China. Negotiations are still continuing about the long-term supply arrangements and Members should contact local agents or our office in Singapore for the most up to date information.
