Published: 28 April 2026

21 May 2026 | 09:00–10:00 BST

Crew injury claims remain a significant exposure for shipowners and operators, with both financial and operational consequences. Understanding real incidents is key to reducing risk and strengthening safety culture on board.

In this loss prevention webinar, our expert panel will look at crew injury case studies, highlighting common causes, contributory factors and practical lessons learned. Particular attention will be given to how unclear, overly complex, or impractical SMS procedures have contributed to incidents by leading crews to deviate from prescribed processes. The session will also provide an overview of P&I claims handling in crew injury cases, outlining how incidents are assessed, investigated and resolved from a claims perspective.

A key focus of the discussion will be the role of a simple and practical Safety Management System (SMS). The panel will explore how an effective SMS can encourage timely reporting, support continuous improvement and promote safer operations

Our expert panel is formed of:

  • Jobin Mathew, Assistant Loss Prevention Manager
  • Capt. Soumya Mukherjee, General Manager (Training), Safe Lanes Consultancy
  • Rachel Butlin, Associate Director, Claims (People Risks)

This webinar will be of interest to all Members, seafarers, shipowners, managers, charterers as well as other parties.
