BRITANNIA LOSS PREVENTION WEBINAR: ADDRESSING THE CHALLENGES OF SHIPPING’S EVOLVING EMISSIONS REGULATIONS

Published: 20 June 2025

The regulation of fuel emissions is gathering pace and becoming more stringent. With the first full year of shipping’s inclusion in the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) now completed, and the FuelEU Maritime Regulations first year having commenced in January 2025, it is important to consider lessons that have been learned and identify where compliance is proving to be difficult. It is also now becoming clearer what shape the future IMO Global Fuel Standard and pricing mechanism may take, with a potential start date in January 2028. This further layer of regulation will add to the challenges already facing the shipping industry – but will also provide opportunities.

Anthony Gardner, Loss Prevention Manager at Britannia P&I, hosted a panel discussion covering a range of topics including how compliance is being achieved, contractual solutions, possibilities of pooling, fuel certification and more.

Our expert panel was formed of:

  • Alessio Sbraga, Partner, HFW
  • Edwin Pang, Founder, Arcsilea
  • Johannes Schürmann, Commercial Director – International Marine, FincoEnergies
