Alessio Sbraga is a partner in HFW’s London shipping department and an expert in maritime decarbonisation. He specialises in environmental compliance, sustainable maritime fuels, emission reduction technologies and greenwashing claims. Alessio’s practice spans both contentious and non-contentious matters, advising stakeholders across the maritime value chain on regulatory compliance, contract negotiations and litigation. He advises extensively on GHG emissions regulations, including MARPOL and the EU’s Fit for 55 legislation and has played a key role in drafting BIMCO charter clauses related to emissions regulations, including MARPOL’s EEXI, the EU’s ETS, and FuelEU Maritime for SHIPMAN 2024. Alessio’s extensive experience and knowledge of shipping emissions regulatory regimes enables him to offer clients a unique perspective and profound understanding of their individual requirements, and adopt a pragmatic approach to problem solving, commercial negotiations and identifying contractual solutions.

Alex Andreou is a Senior Associate in HFW’s London Shipping team, specialising in maritime decarbonisation and environmental regulatory compliance. He has extensive experience of advising clients on international, regional, and local environmental regulations such as MARPOL and the EU’s Fit for 55, helping clients to develop compliance strategies and explore commercial opportunities. Alex creates novel solutions across transport, leasing, financing, and commodities sales to support green transition objectives. He also handles disputes related to environmental regulations in litigation and arbitration and has experience advising on projects involving carbon capture, corporate reporting, sustainable fuels, and new vessel technologies, negotiating and drafting agreements to manage commercial, operational, and technical risks.
