We have been advised by Ambrey, a maritime risk management company, that a bulk carrier was struck by a missile off the coast of Romania.

Following the missile attack on a commercial vessel in the Black Sea, Ambrey has issued a threat circular.

As a summary, on 11 September, a missile struck the Saint Kitts and Nevis-flagged bulk carrier AYA while it was en route from Ukraine to Turkey. At the time of the attack, the vessel was within the Romanian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). This incident marks the first direct missile attack on a merchant vessel in the Black Sea since November 2023 and is also the first instance of non-sea mine-related physical damage to a merchant vessel outside the Black Sea Joint War Committee Listed Area (JWLA). In light of these events, vessels transiting the Black Sea are advised to conduct comprehensive dynamic voyage risk assessments.
