PANAMA CANAL: NEW TARIFF ITEM
Published: 16 February 2023
Our local correspondent, C. Fernie & Co, has advised that a new charge was added to the Panama Canal Authority tariff item with effect from 1 January 2023. The charge is referred to as a disruption charge and the amount depends on the size of the vessel involved and whether the disruption is considered low impact or high impact. The charge is applied if the vessel causes disruption or delays in the movement of scheduled vessel transits and cannot be negotiated or appealed unless applied in error.
