BOSPHORUS AND DARDANELLES – INCREASE OF TRANSIT FEES
Published: 21 September 2022
The transit fees, i.e. dues for light, sanitation and life-saving, charged by Turkey for the vessels using the Straits of Bosphorus and Dardanelles will be increased by five times as of 7 October 2022. This represents an increase of USD 4 per tonne. This is the first time Turkey has changed these dues since 1983.
According to the Montreux Straits Convention signed in 1936, Turkey retains the right to demand light, sanitation and life-saving dues from ships passing through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles.
