SOUTH AFRICAN BUNKERING – MORATORIUM LIFTED

The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) has announced that it has lifted a moratorium on applications for bunkering in Algoa Bay. The filing of new applications opened on 1 February 2022 with the lifting of the moratorium on bunkering licences coming into effect on 1 April 2022. The moratorium has been in place since August 2019, pending the finalisation of a Holding Capacity and Risk Assessment Study.
Interested stakeholders are encouraged to read the Marine Notice (MN 1 of 2022) on the interim application process and requirements to conduct STS or Ship to Ship transfers and Bunkering operations outside of a port. The Notice is available on the SAMSA website.
SAMSA confirmed that only online applications will be accepted via the bunkers@samsa.org.za email address.
