CHINA: ICE CONDITIONS
Published: 15 January 2021
We have been advised by local correspondents that ports such as Yingkou, Jinzhou, Huludao, Dandong, Qinhuangdao, Tangshan, Weifang, Dongying are subject to severe ice conditions.
Their advice for ships that are planning to call at these ports is as follows:
- Drain the water in the deck piping system before the ship arrives in this area, so as to avoid
possible cracking of the pipes caused by freezing. - Maintain safe speed when navigating in the ice area to minimize scratches or damages to the hull.
- When anchoring in the ice area, keep checking the anchor position to avoid dragging anchor.
- Maintain regular checks of the ice condition on the anchor chains to avoid possible loss of anchors.
Ships that are not ice-strengthened which intend to navigate in waters with light ice conditions may also require approval from their Class society and local authorities.
