INDIA: GUIDELINES ON COMPLIANCE WITH MARPOL ANNEX VI / GAC INDIA
Published: 19 October 2020
Our correspondents in India have advised that Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited, one of India’s private multi-port operators, has issued Guidelines on compliance with MARPOL Annex VI which will come into force on 1 November 2020. Ships fitted with an open loop scrubber system will have to change over to a closed loop mode of operations, if fitted, or use compliant fuel before entering any Adani ports.
As a matter of good practice, Members should contact their local agent/representative prior to arrival in any port for confirmation of the latest situation regarding any applicable requirements relating to the operation of scrubbers and any permission required from the relevant local authorities for their use.
A list of jurisdictions restricting or banning scrubber wash water discharges is also available in the Knowledge Base section of our website.
