CHINA: CHINESE WATERS – ANNUAL FISHING BANS ARE LIFTED
Published: 19 August 2020
Members are advised that all primary fishing activities are now allowed in Chinese waters below 26 °30′N, including the Taiwan Strait, Qiongzhou Strait, South China Sea. The ban was lifted at 1200 hrs on 16 August 2020. The effect of this is that thousands of fishing boats will be hurrying to the fishing grounds at the same time. This will undoubtedly have serious effect on the traffic density and will pose a threat to merchant ships in terms of navigational safety. Our correspondents Oasis P&I have produced a circular dated 16 August which sets out the full details of the fishing areas and also contains advice for ships operating in those areas.
