TURKEY: DECLARATION OF BUNKER QUANTITY
Published: 5 March 2020
Local correspondents advise that there have been a number of recent cases where Turkish authorities have accused ships of smuggling bunkers. This is as a result of apparent differences between the quantity of bunkers declared, when the ship arrives in a Turkish port, compared with the quantity the authorities find on board at the time of inspection. This difference is regarded as smuggling by the authorities who may detain the ship and impose a fine. They may also confiscate the bunkers in question by removing them from the ship.
Members are advised to make sure that ship measurements are carefully calculated to avoid any such misdeclarations and to contact local agents or correspondents if they require any assistance.
