CINS PUBLISHES “RISK-BASED DG STOWAGE SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS”
Published: 2 December 2019
CINS has recently published new safety guidance entitled “Safety Considerations for Ship Operators Related to Risk-Based Stowage of Dangerous Goods on Containerships”. This has been prepared by a working group comprising CINS members, classification societies, a flag state and the International Group of P&I clubs, and is intended to help improve fire safety onboard container ships.
Container carriers are encouraged to adopt the guidelines as applicable. It is noted that they shall be read in conjunction with the requirements for the stowage of Dangerous Goods, namely the IMDG Code, SOLAS and the ship’s Document of Compliance for Carriage of Dangerous Goods, as well as any requirements set by the Flag State of the ship.
