COMPLIANCE WITH MARPOL ANNEX VI REGULATIONS IN NORTH AMERICAN AND U.S. CARIBBEAN SEA EMISSION CONTROL AREAS (ECA)
Published: 21 November 2019
The US Coast Guard (USCG) have recently clarified that flag administrations should continue to make appropriate notifications to the International Maritime Organization’s Global Integrated Shipping Information System regarding equivalencies issued for exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) under MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 4.
The USCG has also updated the associated policy letter CG-CVC Policy Letter 12-04 Change 1, which outlines the methods and procedures for verifying compliance with MARPOL Annex VI Regulations 14 & 18 within the US ECA Jurisdiction, and how violations identified by the USCG are documented and referred to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for enforcement.
