CYBER SECURITY: IACS RECOMMENDATIONS ISSUED ON 27 SEPTEMBER 2018
Published: 11 October 2018
IACS has published 9 of its 12 recommendations on cyber safety with the aim of enabling the delivery of cyber resilient ships whose resilience can be maintained throughout their working lives. These recommendations are the result of a long-term initiative from IACS that has benefited considerably from input and support from across the industry. The IACS recommendations address the need for:
• A more complete understanding of the interplay between ship’s systems
• Protection from events beyond software errors
• The need for an appropriate response and ultimately recovery should the protection fail
• A means of detection is required to ensure the appropriate response can be implemented
IACS recognises that the delivery of these important series of recommendations is only the start. The nine recommendations can all be found on the IACS website main page.
