TURKEY: BEWARE OF FINES IF CARRYING OUT WORKS IN PORTS WITHOUT PERMISSION

There are regulations in place in Turkish ports which forbid various activities taking place without the permission of the relevant harbour master.  Local correspondents have advised that there have been quite a few cases of fines being imposed and so we are reminding Members what work requires permission from the harbour master:

• ship repairs, including painting and hot work
• lowering and/or launching lifeboats
• transhipment
• underwater activity such as diving, cable laying/removing and deploying buoys

If in any doubt, Members are advised to contact local port agents or correspondents for clarification.
