USA: HURRICANE HARVEY
The US Coast Guard (USCG) issued the following update (29 August) on port conditions after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey earlier this week:
- Corpus Christi : the Port of Brownsville is operating normally but the ports of Corpus Christi and Calhoun are closed with port condition noted as ‘Zulu’. This means that the port is in a dangerous condition with all port operations suspended as gale force winds are possible within 12 hours.
- Houston : the ports of Freeport, Galveston, Houston and Texas City are all closed with condition Zulu noted by the USCG.
The USCG is working closely with the federal, state and local partners to assess the conditions in the various ports in terms of damage, debris and pollution. Further updates are available on the USCG website and their Twitter feed.
