EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN SEA : POSSIBLE GPS INTERFERENCE

The US Maritime Administration (an agency within the US Department of Transportation) issued an alert this week about multiple maritime incidents that have been reported in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea in the vicinity of position 32-24.0N,029-29.9E between March 18-22, 2018. These incidents have not been confirmed. The nature of these incidents is reported to be GPS interference. Five ships and one aircraft operating between Cyprus and Port Said, Egypt have reported GPS disruptions/interference occurring over extended periods and resulting in either inaccurate positions or no position. The advice is to exercise caution when transiting this area.
