CHINA: SPECIAL NOTICE FOR SHIPS CALLING AT XIAMEN BETWEEN 1 JUNE AND 5 SEPTEMBER 2017
June 22, 2017
Local correspondents have advised that the China MSA has issued a notice on special safety and security inspections for ships calling at Xiamen. This is linked to the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) meeting being held in Xiamen between 3 and 5 September. From 1 August all foreign flag ships will be subject to a special safety and security inspection before entering Xiamen port (for Chinese flag ships, they will need to apply for a special safety inspection with effect from 1 June). Information that must be submitted to the authorities will include the ship security certificate and record, containing details of the ship security officer, details of gangway control measures and visitor checking record. Ships must maintain AIS or VHF communication at all times while in the port and those without functioning communication equipment will not be allowed to enter the port area. Members are advised to check in advance with local correspondents to make sure their ships are fully compliant.
