INDONESIA: POLIO VACCINE COMPULSORY FOR ARRIVALS FROM THE PHILIPPINES

Published: 8 November 2019

A Circular dated 20 September 2019 from the Indonesian Directorate General of Disease Prevention of Ministry of Health makes it compulsory for all Health Offices at Indonesian sea and air ports to coordinate with immigration to ensure that everyone arriving from the Philippines has had a polio vaccination, evidenced by an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICV).

The vaccine must have been obtained at least 4 weeks prior to arrival in Indonesia. If the person has not obtained the vaccine, he/she must be given the polio vaccination on arrival in Indonesia, for which there is a charge, and if they refuse to have a vaccination, then he/she can be deported or prevented from entering Indonesia.

Our Correspondents in the Philippines, Pandiman Philippines, have further advised that that all Filipino crew on ships entering Indonesia will have to produce a valid ICV – International Certificate of Vaccination. If a certificate is not available, the recommendation is to receive a dose of Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) and get their ICV from the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) to serve as proof of their vaccination.

Filipinos are also expected to present polio vaccination certificates before they can be granted visas or entry permits in the following additional countries:  BRUNEI, GEORGIA, LEBANON, MALDIVES, MOROCCO, OMAN, PAKISTAN, QATAR, SEYCHELLES
