Published: 30 April 2025

ReCAAP (Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia) has recently reported a total of 43 incidents and armed robbery against ships during January to March 2025. This marks a 48% increase in the total number of incidents compared to the previous reported incidents during the same period in 2024.

Seafarers are strongly reminded to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring their safety and security while transiting high-risk areas, particularly the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. Regular security rounds, heightened watchkeeping, especially during night hour, and maintaining operational CCTV and communication systems are critical. All suspicious activities must be reported immediately to the nearest coastal authorities and flag State. By staying alert, following best management practices, and leveraging tools such as the ReCAAP Mobile App and Re-VAMP dashboard, seafarers can play a key role in deterring incidents and protecting lives and assets at sea.
