BROWN MARMORATED STINK BUG (BMSB): SEASONAL MEASURES INTRODUCED

Published: 13 September 2018

Updated: 10 September 2020

BIMCO have reminded Members that the BMSB is an invasive pest native to Asia which poses a high biosecurity risk to Australia.  They are more frequently found on goods arriving in Australia between September and April and at these times Australia introduces seasonal measures to manage the risks.  Target risk countries are: USA, Italy, Germany, France, Russia, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Georgia and Japan and so any ship that tranships or loads goods from these countries will be subject to heightened surveillance.

Members are advised to check the list of affected goods and countries and to follow the advice from the relevant authorities. New Zealand and Chile have also introduced their own requirements.
