CHITTAGONG: BEWARE IMPOSTER SURVEYORS

Published: 3 August 2018

We have received advice from our correspondents in Chittagong about recent problems with unofficial surveyors attending ships. Often these surveyors are working with local receivers and local agents in order to obtain contact details of ships due to arrive at Chittagong. They then target these ships with messages offering to carry out surveys at unusually low rates and introducing themselves as club-approved surveyors. They then often show a supposed shortage in their survey report. The advice is to exercise caution when appointing a survey company and make sure that the surveyor is working on behalf of the Members rather than the receiver or consignee. If in any doubt Members are advised to contact the Club correspondents or their own local agent.
